What is the most rewarding thing about owning your travel agency?

The reward is definitely happy Clients and happy team. I love coming to work, sharing the highlights with a delighted customer upon their return and welcoming our clients back into the office time and time again.  I support the ongoing development of my fantastic team,  and congratulate  their well-deserved achievements and accolades.

I have reached a stage in life that allows me to travel a little more, which is vital in order to pass on the first-hand experience of what-to-do and more importantly what-not-do-to. I encourage my team members to travel as well.  A website cannot give you that personal insight, it is invaluable.

You've travelled extensively. What has been the most surprising destination you've visited?

I have been surprised so many times! The places that have stayed with me, in no particular order; Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Africa (my latest and best family holiday), USA (especially New York , San Francisco, Nashville, Chicago and the Amish area), the Cotswolds,  anywhere in Italy and France.  The list is endless! In truth, everywhere can surprise you in different ways.

I have also spent some time in Cambodia and Vietnam and have been moved by the devastation of war.  It has led me to support a small local charity called Rice for Cambodia.  A number of areas in Africa the plight of the women and children is just dreadful, so I also support Women for Women In Africa. We are definitely living in the lucky country.

My favourite way to travel is with a group of friends who share a hobby, or reason to be going together, the laughs multiply daily and it’s like a party every night. Travel is all about the memories created.

What has been your greatest corporate travel success story to date?

I am often surprised by the varied and exotic locations that our clients travel to. Although I enjoy travelling, I empathise with the business traveller, so I revel in getting the fastest route to and between meetings, securing the most comfortable airline seat with the best entertainment. Comparing the cost versus time is what it is all about.

Getting to know my clients over the past 12 years has enabled me to get things just right for them. I love the challenge of finding the flights that best suit the client and being able to put together the perfect itinerary - sometimes within a very short time span. We also have developed a great list of hotels worldwide that would suit the business traveller.

You are an avid cruiser, what entices you back year after year?

Besides only having to unpack once, cruises are a fantastic way to give you a taste of a destination/city. If you are not sure where you want to go or for how long, cruising allows you to see a variety of cities in a relatively short space of time and get a feel of the city. Then when you’re planning your next holiday you can decide if you want to return and spend longer in those cities.

Being a detail oriented person, you must have a few handy travel tips... Instead of travelling with multiple travel adapters, take one adapter and a power board, so you can charge all your devices at once. Also before you put your luggage on the flight take a photo on your phone, so that you can describe it, in the unfortunate  event that it is delayed and doesn’t arrive.

Take the stress out of group travel by consulting with Jo. Specialising in group travel and convention bookings, Jo thrives off the challenge of finding the perfect solution for you and your group.

What has been the best feedback you've received from a group you've booked?

I guess I’ll let my customers answer this one. I love taking groups away and always have at least 2 in the pipeline.

“Excellent is not good enough for Jo, she was the best guide I have had in twenty years of travelling”…Roslyn, Sydney

“Jo is a 6 star Tour Leader. She puts the needs and safety of her group as her first priority at all times, it was a pleasure to be on tour with her”…Verna, East  Bentleigh.

“Jo organised a fantastic tour, nothing was overlooked and she went the “extra mile” for all of us, outstanding”…Wendy, Burwood.

What are your tips for relaxing after a big conference or summit?

Conferences can be exhilarating not to mention stressful! Your senses are stimulated from all directions, so it is really important to remember to take time for yourself to recharge and enjoy the city that you are visiting. If you manage to have a couple of hours off, I’d definitely recommend taking a tour or just have a wonder around to  absorb the city's energy and decompress from all the conference activities. A great added bonus is that you will have even more to chat about when meeting new people - the different spots in the city that they should check out!

If you have a few days up your sleeve after the conference,  I can help you find  what the area has to offer and what is of interest to you.  For some, sitting by the hotel pool or relaxing on a beach is the best way to unwind. For others it may be visiting museums, going to the theatre or attending sporting events. Whatever you choose, make sure that we book everything before you go - that way you know that everything has been taken care of and you can just relax and enjoy your stay.

What are your favourite locations for a family holiday?

In my family, I like to keep busy, my husband likes to relax and the kids are happy playing in the pool and with other children, We have found cruising works really well for us.  We are all entertained and I don't have to cook or clean!  Resorts and islands, like Club Med and the type you find in Fiji, with a good kid's club are popular with families also.

As your family grows, so do their interests. Travelling to the USA to see Disneyland and Universal Studios is a fun filled holiday for the whole family, even for the big kids like me. Asia offers colour, ceremony and culture combined with delicious food and bargain shopping to tempt all members of the family. Europe has so many castles, churches and magnificent monuments rich in history and filled with enchanting tales of years past that will capture everyone's imagination. Almost anywhere can be a holiday destination for your family.

What do you love most about your clients?

What I love most is when clients walk in as strangers for guidance to plan their trip and leave as friends. This comes about from the sharing of dreams and the planning to fulfil lifelong wishes and I hope create lifelong clients.

What is your favourite part of your job?

Definitely seeing the smiles and excitement on my client’s faces when booking or planning an itinerary/holiday, especially when they realise that their dreams can come true!

Where would you recommend a client visit for a chilled-out holiday?

There are a few but I think Fiji is at top of mind. The people are so friendly and everything is so relaxing, with beautiful beaches, snorkelling, diving and plenty of fresh food. Time is no object and everything that needs to be done will eventually get done, but on Fiji time…there is no rush.
